PRESS RELEASE: IMMEDIATE The
Blanchard Community Center continues with an outstanding
arts program thanks to a grant from the Florence Wasmer
Fund for Arts and Culture in Inland Northwest Community
Foundation plus community donations, cooperative
partnerships within the Blanchard area and instructors
with impressive credentials and generosity.
The Blanchard Community Center, 685 Rusho, will hold the
Annual Doll and Teddy Bear Tea to benefit the Center on
Saturday, April 10th at 11 AM. The event is open to the
public for young and old alike. The admission cost of $6
for adults and $3 for children includes an extensive
display of collectible dolls, "show and tell"
items/stories that you bring (dolls, teddies, hats, tea
items), a light lunch, unlimited tea and a fun auction
of theme related items directed by auctioneer, Deirell
Paine.
Artist and instructor, Patsy Parsons has generously
donated one of her oil paintings featuring a beautiful
doll. The painting will be auctioned (starting at a
minimal bid) to benefit the community center and
Blanchard Area Seniors, Inc.. Patsy has been teaching
classes at the Blanchard Community Center during the
last two years. She brings a wealth of knowledge,
talent, and inspiration to the Blanchard arts program.
Patsy has over 20 years experience in portraits painting
of models, taught art at Bellevue Community College and
Corbin Cultural Center, has a commercial arts degree
from Spokane Falls College and a fine arts degree from
Eastern Washington University. Patsy has participated in
many juried shows , has received numerous awards, did
figurative work at Greenhouse Gallery and participates
in Art on the Green and Idaho Paints Idaho.
She is a member of Oil Painters of America and enjoys
teaching her students, especially those at the Blanchard
Community Center. Her contribution to the arts community
in Blanchard and beyond continues to be extremely

PRESS RELEASE: Immediate
The Blanchard Community will hold a Crime Stoppers
meeting on April 1 at 7 PM at the Blanchard Community
Center, 685 Rusho Lane. There have been an extraordinary
number of burglaries in Blanchard and surrounding
communities toward Newport, Spirit Lake and Vay.
Residents living in these areas are encouraged to attend
this important meeting that will include representatives
from the Bonner County Sheriff's office who will be
there to answer questions and listen to concerns.
Information will be provided on how to protect your
private residence, place of business and neighborhoods.
Discussion will also include ways to proceed if you are
a victim. For more information about the meeting contact

BLANCHARD “FUN” RAISERS
The Annual Doll and Teddy Bear Tea will be held at the
Blanchard Community Center (685 Rusho) on Saturday,
April 10th at 11 AM. The public is encouraged to come
and enjoy the display of modern dolls, teddy bears and
so much FUN! Bring your favorite story, doll, teddy,
teacup, tea pot and/or hat for “Show and Tell”. The
admittance cost of $6.00 for adults/$3.00 for children
(under 12) includes finger foods, light lunch, salads,
dessert and unlimited tea.--PLUS, there will be an
affordable auction of new and used doll, teddy and tea
items courtesy of our lady charmer auctioneer, Deirell
Paine. Proceeds benefit Blanchard Area Seniors, Inc. and
the Blanchard Community Center.
BASIC is also busy collecting gift certificates, as well
as, new and used items of all sorts for the Annual
Blanchard Community Auction scheduled for Saturday, June
12th (note the date change). Larry Cunningham will again
lend his entertaining, comical, and arm twisting talents
as auctioneer. Proceeds benefit the Blanchard Community
Center, BASIC and the Blanchard Daze “Country Style”
Celebration. BASIC is additionally collecting gently
used items for the Annual Blanchard Rummage Sale to be
held May 28th-May 31. We thank those businesses and
individuals who have already given or who have committed
their support of our efforts, however, we are still in
need of more items in order to make our fundraising

At a recent "Drawing and Painting from a Live Model"
session at the Blanchard Community Center, artists were
given a special treat when belly dancer Shannon Taylor
modeled for them. The combination of her costume and
movements resulted in some really special drawings and
paintings. For more information on belly dancing
classes, call Shannon at 509 671-1451.
Upcoming "Drawing and Painting from a Live Model"
sessions are scheduled for Saturday, April 17 when yoga
instructor Marjorie Anderson will be posing. On
Saturday, May 15 a very pregnant Emily Bishop Davidson
will be our model. All sessions are from 10 AM - 2 PM
and cost just $10.00. Additional sessions are scheduled
for June 19 and beyond.
Art
classes and workshops also continue to be offered at the
Blanchard Community Center. Acrylic painting with
Clancie Pleasants is scheduled for Saturday, March 27
from 10-2 PM. Oil painting is offered on Saturday, April
24 and Jewelry Making with Daris Judd is offered on May
8. A two-part Ceramics Workshop with Virginia Carter is
scheduled for May 22 and June 26, with a Textured Paper
workshop being offered on Saturday, June 5. Cost is only
$10.00 with additional classes and workshops to be
announced soon.
Live model sessions and art classes and workshops are
offered for creative types at all skill levels by a
group of well-meaning people who want to keep the arts
alive in our community and region. Bring a lunch and
your own materials to the Live Model sessions. Materials
are provided for the Classes and Workshops. The Center
is a large space and has a good clean-up area. Come join
the fun and come play with us!

BLANCHARD: A Town Hall Meeting will be held at the
Blanchard Community Center, 685 Rusho Lane on
Thursday, March 11th at 7 PM. This special evening
program is an open forum for discussion of issues
(now and in the future) related to Blanchard.
Bonner County Commissioners, Cornel Rasor, Lewis
Rich and Joe Young will be on-hand to answer
questions. Additionally, Ryan Luttman (or an
alternate representative) from Bonner County Roads
and Bridges will attend, as well as, Leslie Marshall
from Parks and Recreation, Solid Waste, Waterways
and Weeds. Bring your questions and concerns.
Refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome!

THANKS TO GRANTORS
Kitchen Progress at
the Blanchard Community Center
Blanchard Area Seniors,
Incorporated (BASIC) proudly reports great progress
on the commercial kitchen at the Blanchard Community
Center. The dishwashing corner is now complete
and has state-of-the-art equipment thanks to
on-going community efforts and generous grants
that were awarded last year.

Inland
Northwest Community Foundation awarded a
Community Strategies grant in the amount of
$6,500 for custom made stainless steel sinks,
counters and an under-the-pass-thru cabinet.
Stimson-MillerFoundation awarded a grant of
$5,000 for partial cost of the dishwasher.
The Northern Region Greatest Need Fund in Idaho
Community Foundation awarded a grant for $2,000
for the balance on the dishwasher.
The Blanchard community paid for the stainless
steel wall covering, electrical work, plumbing,
grease trap, freezer and icemaker with monies
from donations, fundraisers and earmarked
savings.
Future kitchen plans
are to complete the food preparation island
including a prep-sink (required), stainless steel
counter and cabinetry. The goal is to meet
regulations for commercial licensing and eventually
start a congregate meal site program. For more
